Course Introduction
With competing issues in project execution articulating the varying dimension towards meeting the set objectives becomes an inevitable task for the stakeholders. The concept of project management often described as “The art of directing and coordinating human and material resources throughout the life of a project by using modern management techniques to achieve predetermined objectives of scope, cost, time, quality and participant (stakeholder) satisfaction. That is to say, a successful project is one in which all the stakeholders feel equally good about the end results. As project becomes larger and more complex, the consequences of decisions on, essentially how well the project is to be managed with commitment to communication and coordination will generally far outweigh the consequences of how well a specific technical role is performed. Consequently, ensuring success of project demands that those saddled with the responsibilities of managing projects at all levels be well equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills of Project Management. These required skills are thus quite different from the technical design, engineering or construction skills usually associated with most projects. Indeed, on a large complex project there are aspects outside of the scope of these technical areas that have to be well managed, if the project objectives are to be met. For this reason, great emphasis must be placed on the project management team approach, backed by broad specialized resources.
This training is aimed at equipping participants with the skills to carry out result-based project management to ensure successful implementation and sustainability of the project gains. At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Understand and have a broad framework and scope of projects and their management attributes, tasks and time.
- Understand and explain the processes of transferring project management principles and attributes into actionable activities.
- Appreciate and be able to use the available project management tools to enhance their performance.
- Proactively identify potential project implementation risks and prepare risk mitigation plan.
