Course Introduction

A critical and perhaps dominant global environmental problem in the last three decades is global warming, resulting from global climate change. Amid the dire warning of severe weather perturbations and global warming, scientists and policy makers have been searching for ways of tackling the menacing threat of climate change.

In recent times, a number of natural disasters of great severity have occurred in several countries successively resulting from lack of effective forecast capacity with respect to flood, earthquakes, tsunamis, desert encroachment and landslides, the human casualty as well as property losses have been disastrous. These catastrophic events have deepened the belief in the significance of the “Climate Change” which calls for concerted efforts by all mankind.

With the increased importance of climate change as a global issue, educating the public on the global warming, greenhouse effect caused by climate change and achieving net zero emission projections for 2060 becomes imperative. Central to this is the need for organisations, government MDAs etc. to build their capacity in climate change.

It is therefore, the ultimate objective of our climate change course to infuse our participants with cuttingedge and innovative knowledge in climate change.
